
Andy Carroll
Managing Director
Andy is a Project Manager and Fieldwork Coordinator with over 25 years of experience in ecological and ornithological surveying and assessments, managing his team to deliver fieldwork on time, and on budget, on behalf of ecological consultancies. Andy has been a birdwatcher for over 40 years, and has previously worked for the RSPB, BTO, and British Waterways, amongst others. In his own time, he’s a keen rarity finder and raptor enthusiast.

Pete Carroll
Operations Manager
Pete has been birding for almost 50 years. Having spent 10 years in a senior management role within the commercial arm of the RSPB, Pete has since also amassed over 10 years of survey experience. He has worked on many development projects including large scale renewable projects. He has responsibility for staff training, health and safety matters, and data management and quality assurance, as well as continuing to conduct and co-ordinate field work. He is especially interested in goshawk and golden eagle.

Stuart MacDonald
Field Ornithologist
Stuart is a long-term birder and very capable all-round ecologist. He is a member of the Tayside Raptor Study Group, specialising in goshawk, peregrine and barn owl. With over 20 years of survey experience behind him, Stuart also has a mountain leader certificate, is a keen walker, and has led groups into the Scottish uplands.

Marcus Lawson
Field Ornithologist
Marcus has been birding for over 40 years including many trips overseas. He has previously held positions such as editor of the Dorset Bird Report, amongst others. In addition to a lifelong passion for finding and seeing birds he also has a particular interest in moths which, in turn, has improved his plant identification. He moved to Scotland in 2022.

Andrew Stainthorpe
Field Ornithologist
Andrew hails from South Africa and has over 20 years of birding experience. He holds a Conservation Diploma and helped manage nature reserves. Birding was always his main interest, conducting various bird monitoring programmes in South Africa, as well as leading bird tours. This enthusiasm for birds has continued here in the UK.

Andrew Russell
Field Ornithologist
Andrew recently graduated with a degree in Countryside Management. A lifelong birder, he has a passion for raptors, photography and rarities. He’s also a SOC Clyde Branch Committee member.

Robin Dacre
Field Ornithologist
Robin has had a mixed working background, but he brings a lifelong passion for birds and wildlife with him as he takes his first step on his ecological career path. He has a particular fondness for spotted flycatchers and owls.

Tom Wells
Field Ecologist
Tom is a lifelong birder and has over 15 years’ experience carrying out Ornithological surveys for a wide range of organisations, including ecological consultancies – where he also carried out NVC, Phase 1 and Protected Mammal surveys. Additionally, during his career, he has also led habitat restoration projects for RSPB and worked closely with landowners on agri-environment schemes. Tom’s main passion is wading birds, having worked most closely with this group throughout his life – for example spending thousands of hours finding and monitoring their nests! He is very keen on travel and birding abroad, which has included extended periods in Alaska, Canada and New Zealand.

Emily Richens
Field Ecologist
After completing her Master’s fieldwork – studying mongoose ecology in South Africa – and undertaking some research in Mexico’s jungles, Emily moved to the Scottish Highlands where she spent three years broadening her field skills through wildlife guiding. When not looking for animals, Emily is a keen rower and mountain hiker. She’s always happiest outside – whatever the weather.

Matt Eade
Field Ornithologist
Matt was brought up in Sussex and began birding at the age of six. By the age of 30, he had birded upon all seven continents. He has stood on the Sussex Rarities Committee, contributed to many birding publications, and is also a keen runner having completed 12 marathons to date. Matt now lives, along with his partner Emily, in the Highlands.

Liam Carroll
Field Ecologist
Liam is developing his skills as an all round ecologist. He can deliver high quality bat and mammal surveys and is undergoing training to improve his expertise in bird surveying.

Caroline Carroll
Bat Work Co-ordinator
Caroline spent 12 years as a Secondary School art teacher but has always had a passion for wildlife and conservation. Caroline has been undertaking bat surveys for 10 years. As well as coordinating and organising fieldwork, Caroline is a very capable data analyst, and has interpreted data for several large scale renewable projects as well as housing schemes and bridge restorations.
